Redundancy - Fairly Selected

  • If the position is unique then it is normally fair to select the individual in the post which is ceasing to exist.
  • If the department / area is closing it is normal for all individuals working within that department or area to be made redundant.
  • Where a number of employees perform the same or similar work, and that number needs to be reduced, then your employer must have a method for selecting which employees to dismiss. This would involve creating a matrix of objective criteria, against which each affected individual is scored.

If the reason for redundancy is not covered by the above then your dismissal may be unfair.
